Laboratory Task 2: RT and Social Cognition

Let's do another simple exercise. Don't worry, we'll get really complicated soon enough. Still, it's valuable, we think, to start with a solid foundation. This week, let's do the Implicit Association Task, a task that uses reaction time in the study of social cognition. At the link below, go to an IAT task that you are interested in -- a bias or stereotype of some kind, that you'd like to detect in yourself. We all have biases; the IAT's lofty goal is to use cognitive science to help us determine where those biases are!

As last time, write 100 words describing your experience. Did the program report that you have a bias? Make sure to make reference to reaction time when you're describing what you did in the task. What response was easiest (fastest), what response hardest (slowest)?

You will be checked as 'complete' on this lab when your TA has determined that you have connected your experiences with discussion in class and/or in the readings. Your TA may give you some quick feedback before determining the exercise complete; just follow up on that feedback and make sure to submit before your section next week.
